Terms & Conditions
These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern access to and use of shadcnblocks.com, its shadcn registry, API, CLI and MCP endpoints, previews, screenshots, documentation, and any other service provided by Shadcnblocks.com (together, the “Services”).
These Terms apply to anyone who accesses the Services, whether or not they have an account or a paid license, and whether access is made by a person, a script, a crawler, an AI agent, or any other automated means. In these Terms, “you” means that person, and any organization on whose behalf they act.
By accessing or using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not access or use the Services. If you continue to access the Services after we have notified you of these Terms, including by email or by any method under Notices, you have accepted them.
Relationship to the License Agreement
Paid Components are licensed under our License Agreement. If you hold a paid license, the License Agreement governs what you may build with the Components, and these Terms govern how you access the Services.
Definitions
- Components: All blocks, components, pages, templates, themes, design files, source code, previews, and other assets published by Shadcnblocks.com, whether free or paid, and whether or not you hold a license.
- Derivative: Any work that reproduces a substantial part of a Component, including its code, structure, layout, default content, or images, in any form. A work is a Derivative whether the reproduction is exact or altered, and whether the alteration was made by hand or through automated or AI-assisted transformation, restyling, renaming, or reformatting.
- End Product: A website, application, or piece of software that incorporates Components, where the Components are not the primary value of the product. A product whose main purpose is to display, distribute, or provide access to Components, such as a catalog, directory, library, kit, or mirror, is not an End Product.
- Client: A person or organization for whom you build an End Product.
- Free Blocks: Components offered without a paid subscription, including items served from the public shadcn registry at shadcnblocks.com without authentication, and items available to any logged-in account without payment.
- Registry: The shadcn-compatible registry served from shadcnblocks.com, including every endpoint under
/r/, and any other API through which Components are delivered. - Platform: Any marketplace, directory, catalog, component library, website builder, AI site builder, code generation tool, or other service that hosts, indexes, displays, generates, or distributes UI components or code for third parties.
Ownership
All Components, including Free Blocks, together with their source code, designs, previews, screenshots, default content, and images, are copyrighted works of Shadcnblocks.com. All rights not expressly granted in these Terms or the License Agreement are reserved.
Free Blocks
Making a block available without charge is a limited permission to use it as described below. It is not a waiver of copyright, and it does not dedicate the block to the public domain.
End products
You may fetch Free Blocks from the Registry, install them into an End Product for yourself, your company, or a Client, and modify them for that End Product, including a commercial End Product. You may keep those copies in the repository for that End Product, including a public repository whose purpose is the End Product. You may not republish the Free Blocks themselves as a library, kit, template, or catalog.
Directories
We welcome directories, search tools, and other sites that help developers discover our work, such as shoogle.dev and the shadcn registry directory. We also welcome the shadcn CLI, and tools built on it, fetching, searching, viewing, and installing items from the Registry.
Unless we withdraw permission under Withdrawal, you may:
- index and link to any Component, including paid Components, using its name, description, published screenshots, and a link to its page on shadcnblocks.com; and
- display the source code and previews of Free Blocks.
This permission applies only while all of the following are true:
- Everything you display is available on your site without charge, without a paid subscription, and without a login or other access restriction.
- You do not display or distribute the source code of paid Components.
- You do not sell our Components or present them as your own products.
- You do not mirror the Registry, copy or clone the design of shadcnblocks.com, or offer your copy as the install source. Install instructions must point to the Registry.
- You link each Component to its page on shadcnblocks.com.
- Your site publishes a working contact email address.
Withdrawal
Permission under Directories is a courtesy, and we may withdraw it at our discretion. We will usually do so where we consider that a site competes with Shadcnblocks.com, uses our Components mainly for its own commercial benefit, or does not meet the conditions above.
Your permission to display a Free Block ends:
- when that block is no longer offered on the Registry without authentication, including when it is moved to a paid plan; or
- when we give you written notice withdrawing permission for that block, or for your site.
When permission ends, you must stop displaying and distributing the affected Components immediately, and delete any retained source, registry files, previews, and caches within 48 hours. Copies already installed into an End Product may remain in that End Product, so long as keeping and using that copy complies with these Terms.
No paywall
You may not:
- Charge for access to Free Blocks, their source code, registry files, or previews, or place them behind a subscription, paid plan, login, or other access restriction.
- Resell, sublicense, mirror, or redistribute Free Blocks, except inside an End Product or as permitted under Directories.
- Include Free Blocks in a marketplace, component library, template pack, or competing catalog, except as permitted under Directories.
These limits are conditions of the permission in this section. Use outside this section is unlicensed and is an infringement of our copyright, whether or not you have agreed to these Terms or purchased a license.
Acceptable Use
When accessing the Services, you may not:
- Scrape, crawl, or bulk download the Services, the Registry, or Components, by any automated means, except through the shadcn CLI, MCP, IDE extension, or other tools built on the shadcn CLI, to search, view, or install items, or at a reasonable rate to operate a directory permitted under Directories. General-purpose search engines may index public pages in line with our
robots.txt. - Mirror, clone, or reproduce shadcnblocks.com, its design, its catalog, or its Registry, in whole or in part.
- Cache, store, or serve copies of Components, previews, or screenshots for others, except as part of an End Product, as permitted under Directories, or as your license permits.
- Use the Services or Components to train, fine-tune, or evaluate an AI model, or to build a dataset, other than to work on your own End Product or to build a search index for a directory permitted under Directories.
- Bypass or interfere with authentication, rate limits, plan restrictions, or any other access control, or access Components that your account is not entitled to.
- Share, publish, or resell API keys or account access, or let anyone outside your license type use them.
- Frame the Services, or present them inside another site or app, so that they appear to be part of it.
- Remove, alter, or obscure copyright notices, license metadata, attribution, or identifying markers included with Components, including by rewriting or regenerating them with AI.
Marketplace & Platform Operators
Distributing our Components, Free Blocks, or Derivatives through a Platform is prohibited, except for directories that meet every condition under Directories, and copies inside an End Product that these Terms or the License Agreement permit, such as an End Product’s own source repository.
If you operate a Platform, you are responsible for ensuring that our Components are not used, uploaded, cached, mirrored, or distributed through it, other than as permitted in the previous paragraph. This applies whether content is submitted by users, generated by AI, fetched from the Registry, or sourced from third parties, and it applies where the Platform itself holds the copy. Where our Components are found, we expect your full and prompt co-operation to remove them. A block withdrawn under Free Blocks, including one moved to a paid plan, must be removed as described there.
Where an operator knowingly encourages, incentivizes, or enables the sale or distribution of our Components or Derivatives, the operator is responsible for it, not just the contributor. For example, if your marketplace pays contributors a revenue share, and you become aware that contributors are uploading our Components but choose not to act because the content is profitable, that is a breach by the Platform. User-generated content is not a defence.
An infringement may occur each time:
- our Components are added to your Platform;
- your users preview, download, clone, generate, or otherwise obtain content derived from our Components; or
- a generation event in your system reproduces or draws on our materials.
Monitoring and Evidence
We actively monitor access to the Services, including the Registry. Our logs capture information such as the item requested, the time, IP addresses, user agents, API keys, accounts, and other technical markers, as described in our Privacy Policy. We use this information to identify who accessed or copied a Component, to trace copies found elsewhere back to their source, and as evidence in enforcing these Terms and our copyright.
Components may contain identifying features, markers, and other means of tracing their origin, which may persist through copying, modification, restyling, renaming, or AI-assisted transformation. We may use these, together with our logs, to identify Derivatives and the source from which they were obtained.
The absence or incompleteness of any log or record, for any reason, is not evidence that access, copying, or use did not occur, or that it was authorised.
Enforcement and Remedies
If you breach these Terms, we may block, suspend, or terminate your access to the Services, revoke API keys, and close any account you hold. We will give you notice where reasonable, but may act without notice where the breach is deliberate or ongoing, or harms the Services or our rights.
Use of our Components outside the permissions in these Terms or the License Agreement infringes our copyright. We may seek every remedy available by law in any country where the infringement occurs, including:
- in Australia, injunctions, damages or an account of profits, and additional damages under section 115(4) of the Copyright Act 1968 for flagrant infringement;
- in the United States, actual damages and profits, or, where available, statutory damages under 17 U.S.C. § 504(c) and attorney’s fees under § 505; and
- in any jurisdiction, delivery up and destruction of infringing copies, interest, and legal costs.
Infringement of many Components may give rise to a claim for each of them. Our failure or delay in enforcing any part of these Terms is not a waiver of it.
Disclaimers and Liability
The Services and Free Blocks are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by law. Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be excluded by agreement.
Subject to that, Shadcnblocks.com is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenue, arising from your use of or inability to use the Services or Free Blocks. Our total liability to you under or in connection with these Terms for Free Blocks and access to the Services is limited to AUD $100. Liability for paid Components is governed by the License Agreement.
General
Notices
Notice to Shadcnblocks.com must be sent to support@shadcnblocks.com. Notice to you, including notice of withdrawal under Free Blocks, may be given by any of the following:
- the email address on your account, or any email address you have given us;
- any email address, contact form, social media or code hosting account, abuse or DMCA contact, or domain registrant contact associated with you, or with the website or service on which the Components appear;
- the hosting provider, content delivery network, or domain registrar for that website or service.
Notice is effective when sent, whether or not it is received, read, filtered as spam, or rejected, and whether or not the contact details you supplied or published are accurate. You are responsible for providing and monitoring a working contact address. A notice given to a hosting provider, content delivery network, or registrar is effective against you whether or not they forward it.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms by publishing a new version on this page. Changes take effect when published. If you continue to access the Services after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the Services.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force and effect.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Queensland and the Commonwealth of Australia. Each party submits to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland and the Federal Court of Australia. Nothing in this clause prevents Shadcnblocks.com from bringing a claim for infringement of copyright, or for related relief, in any court that has jurisdiction over the infringer or the infringing copies, including the courts of the country where the infringer is located or where the infringing content is hosted.
